Being on social networks is not having a website

Do not confuse

In my personal and professional life I have heard, on several occasions, the following phrase: “I have my web site”, to which I immediately ask “What is your web site address? sometimes I am told:

• facebook.com/my-company/
• twitter.com/my-company/
• www.instagram.com/company/
  

If you are a company, it is even more important NOT to make the mistake of confusing this because, in front of a client or rather, in front of anyone who knows the difference between a social network, a fanpage and a Website, it will look bad and unprofessional.

To have a Web site you start by having your own domain (be careful, having a free domain like .tk is not having your own domain) and a hosting where to host the Web site. Having these two we can start to create our website.

Having a Facebook profile, a Facebook fanpage, a twitter account, linkedin, instagram…IS NOT TO HAVE A WEBSITE.

Website, fanpage and social networks…

A website with its own domain and a hosting plan IS YOURS, NO ONE ELSE’S. The limits are set by the owner of the website, unlike a fanpage and social network, which are governed by their terms and conditions.

In a Web Site we have absolute control and freedom. In the previous ones we do not.

An important aspect that is often overlooked is that with a Web Site the information will always be there (as long as the domain and hosting account is paid), social networks such as twitter have a limit of tweets and Facebook posts do not have a good positioning.

I have mentioned it before: posts should go from the site to the social networks and not the other way around. The networks must work as a diffusion media in charge of directing traffic to the Web Site.

We must be in the social networks but having only a fanpage or social network is unprofessional and having a Web Site is the letter of introduction is what identifies us from others on the www.
